First, let’s talk about some of the obvious benefits that eating healthy can do for us.  For one, the most desired outcome comes to mind…and that of course is losing weight or maintaining a healthy weight.

Being overweight is certainly not something to take lightly.  With diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and many more being directly linked to obesity it is certainly one of the easiest risk factors to avoid.

If you’re a parent, another great reason to eat healthier, is to instill good healthy eating practices in your children.  By doing this, you can ensure that as they age and mature, your kids will continue to maintain a healthy diet and enjoy the multitude of benefits that eating healthy provides.  So exactly what are some other benefits to eating a healthy diet?

Pros of Eating Healthy

  • Higher amounts of energy
  • Increased immune system so you get sick much less frequently
  • Lower levels of stress
  • Lower levels of fatigue
  • More mental acuity
  • An increased memory
  • Better looking skin, nails, and hair
  • And the list goes on and on.

Alright, so many of us know the above-mentioned pros of a healthy diet.  What are some of the cons though?  Do you have to enjoy bland tasting meals all the time?  Do you have to eat like a rabbit all the time?  Well, certainly not.  However, there are just a few major cons when it comes to trying to eat healthy.

  • Increased preparation time for meals

As you can see, while eating a healthy diet certainly has a lot of pros with it, it also does have some downsides. The BIG question is, however, is it worth it to you and your family to have both a short-term monetary and time investment in order to ensure a long-term reward of a better lifestyle?

The good news is that there are a lot of options available for some of the other cons to healthy eating.  For example, if you have difficulty locating foods that you find are necessary ingredients for healthy meals you can often order them online, shop at your local farmers market or health food stores.

Concerned about the increased cost of groceries?  With a little preparation there are several options available to you.  Keep an eye out for coupons in your local papers, sales at your local grocers, and enroll in programs such as Saving Star, so that you are able to reduce your upfront expenses.  By taking just a little time before going shopping, you are able to reduce your grocery bill significantly.
